WALLS: AS GENERATOR OF LIFE

Walls deny space. A wall is an intentional obstruction to free and uninterrupted movement. In denying space walls also “create space” or at least mould space into a defined forms. In “creating” of defining the space, they contribute to the making of places.

In a city surrounded by walls, walls refer to isolation, being trapped and bounded. Walls can also create interaction, permeability and opennes. The way it is used changes the meaning it refers. As a city surrounded by wall, Famagusta needs to refer the latter. Therefore, walls create axis, provide vistas and directs people from one point to another while they create a new way of living which helps to dissolve the boundaries between art and people and new way of exploring the meaning of walls.
