A CONTEMPORARY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ARCHITECTURAL CULTURE IN BOLOGNA

THE CLIFFHANGER

The project is settled at a very distinct location of Bologna, right at the threshold between the Medieval city center and contemporaneous urban fringes, creates a vivid contextualization which is bond with sociopolitical and cultural history of the city. In that sense, to re-define the relations of the existing theater, church and elemantary school with the district, and create a reciprocal relation between the program and the teritorrial needs, much of the area has been designed as open spaces. The building is dominantly settled at the southern periphery of the site, which also consummates the silhouette from the city center. The only longitunal structure is cut from the ground and settled onto the traces of Via Antonio Di Vincenzo, with protecting the trees at the both sides of the street. The differences of form, material and function between longitudinal and transversal parts distinguishes open and close spaces and enables a variety of transitions and diffusions from publicity to privacy.
