VERTICAL CAMPUS: IZMIR SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
As a rising trend of a vertical campus can be conceived as transition from suburban to urban, fixed to flexible, formal to informal, closed to open. This may lead us to think the vertical campus having dual charachteristics, pure form with impure functional packaging, amorph form with neat functional packaging. In that sense each stack of educational programe is capsulated in blobs and connected to main system which houses common and interaction spaces in different levels. Horizontal plates (Slabs) can be seen as a flow of interaction and a bridge to the pure programe stacking of educational spaces (Blobs). Overall system is placed in a simple rectangular prism as a continuation of Kordon line where the masses creates a wall effect that gives quality of unified and defined urban space.
