VERTICAL CAMPUS: IZMIR SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
Considering the two distinct and somehow contrasting fabrics of the city on the two sides of the site, the building took its placement, forming and deforming accordingly as it rises high where the city grows while it drops in elevation, as it increases in footprint, where the city comes to the end meeting the sea. This is where the element “Ramp” comes in place in purpose of control. Thus Initially, creating and spreading chaos from the exterior of the building to the interior, visually seen on the facade at instances and traced by its colour behind the glazing at other instances and eventually pushing the building towards itself as it rises. Not only limited to visual and facade organization, the ramp plays its role in the organization of the spaces in the floors as it on one hand creates a link between different types of spaces and programs on different floors. while on the other hand, creates another link between the street level to the public functions in the building.
